Did anyone watch the show Bedlam? It's British but I think from a trailer I saw it went to some channel called BBC America as well. I really liked it when I saw it a few years ago and I've been thinking about watching it again. It had a good story and scared the bejesus outta me! I also really like the idea of how chilling it would be to live in a place that used to be an insane asylum. I'm not sure if the show is based around it at all but one of the biggest asylums in England (Colney Hatch - a Jack the Ripper suspect was a resident there) is now a fancy apartment building. On the topic of Bedlam, there is also a great comic with the same name. It has one of my favourite characters (Madder Red) and has both great art and writing! There are only two volumes and both were awesome. If I could dress up as anyone for Halloween it would be Madder Red. One day! The comic is pretty violent and Madder Red has a disturbing sense of humour, so it was pretty hard to find a couple of normal looking images! Here's a link to him on Comic Vine: Madder RedIf anyone has any suggestions for films/shows/whatever scary thing set in an asylum please let me know!

Oh jeez Arbie there are quite a few. There is a psychological horror/thriller that takes place in the Danvers State Mental Hospital in Massachusetts, called Session 9. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Session_9Grave Encounters was a found footage insane asylum ghost story. A little ho-hum but I enjoyed it. The sequel was bad. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grave_EncountersOne of my personal favorites, 1982's Alone in the Dark. The patients escape. And a punk band I love, the Sic F*cks make an appearance. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alone_in_the_Dark_(1982_film)Tons more, but I'l have to look them up. I cannot recall the names right now. Insanitarium might be another and then there is Asylum I think too.

I've seen Session 9 (I liked it) and Grave Encounters (don't remember liking it too much) but not Alone in the Dark. It says it's a slasher which isn't usually my thing because I don't like gore (I say after professing my love for Madder Red ) but I'll try check it out! I need to find some good documentaries to watch about them. I've seen a few, but I think I want some of the videos where people break into look around abandoned asylums.

I went to UMass Amherst and lived right near this place. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northampton_State_HospitalMe and a few friends looked around. At one time there was a website that before it was torn down they did a huge walk around. Not sure if the site is still up. Yeah Alone in the Dark is a bit slashy. I forgot you didn't particularly like gore and dig more more cerebral stuff. I'll keep looking!

Oh wow! It always amazes me how big those places were. "After 130 years, the wards of Old Main were home only to silence and stillness when it was abandoned in 1986." I wonder what it must have felt like to be the last person to lock the doors and leave that building behind.
